Application hints and tips

Applying for a role at BTPS can involve several stages. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare can help you through the process.

BTPS’s application procedures vary according to the role you are seeking and the office where you are hoping to work. They will typically include the stages outlined below.

  • Ensure your CV is up to date and details your experience for the role you are applying for.
  • Prepare for your interview by reading the job description for the role and re-reading your CV.
  • Know your strengths and be prepared to give examples to demonstrate the relevant skills or experience.
  • If you don’t understand the question you have been asked, ask the interviewer to expand on it.
  • The interview is your chance to show us that you are keen for the role.
  • Stay calm and relax.

Candidates for roles at BTPS will need to submit a copy of their CV to either the London office (careers@btps.co.uk) or the Chesterfield office (Emma.Ford@btpsa.co.uk). You may then be asked to complete an online assessment or telephone screening. We aim for an inclusive work environment where everyone can reach their full potential. If you require any adjustments to our recruitment process please let us know. Examples of such adjustments might include supplying materials in large print or Braille or providing assistance to attend our assessment centres.

Due to the current COVID 19 pandemic, all interviews are currently being conducted virtually using Skype or Microsoft Teams.

  • What should I expect?

    First stage interviews will usually be an overview of your CV detailing relevant skills and experience followed by competency based questions.
    At a second stage interview, you may be asked to present on a subject area relevant to the role you have applied for. At this stage you will be interviewed by a senior member of the team.

    For some roles, we may require you to complete a final stage interview. Details of this will vary by role.
