You can notify us of the death of one of our members using the online form below. Alternatively, you might prefer to contact us by telephone. Our member services team are on hand to give you all the help you need.

It will help if you have as many of the following details as possible to hand:

  • The member's BTPS membership number or national insurance number.
  • Their full name and date of birth
  • The date that the member died
  • Details of the member’s spouse or civil partner
  • If they weren’t married or in a civil partnership is there another adult financially dependent on the member who may be entitled to dependant benefits
  • Your name and email address so that we can respond and provide further information

As soon as possible after reporting the death, we'll contact you with the information your (or the executor) may need for tax purposes and to request any further information we require.

REPORT A DEATH

What documents we’ll need:

  • Death certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate

We'll keep in touch until we can confirm if any pension benefits are payable to any beneficiaries. At that point, we will contact the beneficiary directly for privacy reasons, unless:

  • the nominated person has Lasting Power of Attorney or is a Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection for the beneficiary or;
  • the beneficiary has given their written consent to have information sent to the nominated person
