78,000 Members Register For New Member Portal

Just four months after launching its new online member portal, 78,000 of BT Pension Scheme’s (BTPS) c.275,000 members have registered to manage their pension digitally.

The Scheme’s member portal is the culmination of more than two years work, developed using in-depth member research and digital best practice to understand member needs – particularly at the point of retirement.

Built on Procentia’s IntelliPen system, the portal is accessible via the new btps.co.uk website and is easy to navigate and personalised to each member.

One of the key features is a pension calculator which enables members approaching retirement to model their benefits, helping them decide when to take their pension by showing them its value at different retirement dates as well as modelling all of the options available to them.

Since launch, over 190,000 calculations have been run using the pension calculator and 43% of newly retired members have committed to confirming their retirement choice using the portal.

The portal also enables members to update personal information quickly, download their pension payslips and P60s and see the value of their pension each month and their payment dates.

BTPS has also developed a number of animated video guides to help members better understand the features and benefits of their BTPS pension which can be viewed here.

Dave Tomlins, Head of Pension Services Delivery, BTPS said: "We have steadily increased member satisfaction scores since bringing member administration in-house in 2018. But we needed to build the high-quality online services members told us they want."

"We've listened and developed a member portal which is simple to navigate, easy to use and supports better decision making. It's popularity shows that we've delivered what members want and we'll continue to make continuous improvements."

Steve Donkin, CEO, Procentia said: "BTPS has benefitted from using a unique member website solution developed by Procentia that delivers full integration between the member portal and our IntelliPen administration platform. Unlike traditional member portals, our technology enables BTPS members to access advanced functionality previously only available to administrators"

The portal, website, and video animation guides were design by Landscape, a specialist pension communication consultancy.

Johnathon Ryder, Client Services Director, Landscape said: "We've designed a simple and engaging user interface for BTPS's member portal using modern web techniques and clear call-to-actions that are delivering encouraging results for BTPS members."
